Let mom and pop stores sell wine exclusively

Interesting Guest Commentary, “Wine sales in grocery stores?,” (Feb. 15).

On vacation in another state I found large grocery stores were allowed to sell wine directly to the customer. What I found was a half row, eight-foot-high locked glass wine cabinet, inaccessible to the customer. I had to return to the cashier to ask someone to open the locked wine cabinet. The cashier then announced customer assistance for wine sales over the PA system. After returning to the locked wine case waiting for about three to four additional minutes the manager came and unlocked the case and I chose the wine I wanted. Note, the store's wine selection was limited. Will this be how large grocery stores administer control on their liquor establishments here in Connecticut? Large Cigar Cabinet

Let mom and pop stores sell wine exclusively

I prefer leaving the sale of wine exclusively with the individual mom and pop package stores mainly because the wine selection will be larger, convenient to review and paid quickly at the cash register. Let the mom and pop liquor stores maintain their respected profit ratio keeping them alive, allowing them to contribute in greater amounts back into the community rather than close a large number to big business.
