Dandridge, Tennessee-The Jefferson County School said students at Dandridge Elementary School were fired immediately after a fire broke out in a bathroom on Monday.

According to information released by the school district, the school was closed due to a fire that broke out before the start of school. The incident occurred at 7:50 in the morning in a bathroom in the corridor of the second grade, when a student used a device to light toilet paper in one of the booths.

The school district said that when a staff member noticed a student walking out of the bathroom and smelling smoke, the students had just arrived in class. When the staff entered the bathroom, they found that one of the stalls was on fire, and the toilet paper had spread to the plastic mold holding the paper and one of the partition walls.

According to the press release, the staff notified the school administration and started fire evacuation. A staff member used a portable fire extinguisher to try to control the fire.

The district said Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey and his staff immediately opened up a space at the nearby Jefferson County Justice Center to help place children in a warm environment and ensure better supervision of student groups.

According to a post on the school district’s website, students were transferred to the Jefferson County Justice Center for dismissal, where parents could pick them up. Passengers on the bus were also expelled from the Justice Center.

School director Shane Johnston said no one was injured.

According to the school district, the administrative team and local law enforcement have identified the students who set fire in the restrooms. The student has received proper disciplinary action and will not have the "first semester balance" on campus.

"Thanks to our faculty, staff and parents for working together to deal with unexpected situations. With everyone's joint efforts, students and adults are safe, and all students can safely return to their homes," Dandridge Elementary School principal Jim Hodge Say.

The school district stated that the closure only affects Dandridge Elementary School. All other Jefferson County schools will continue to attend classes.

The Jefferson County School said it will make a decision on the resumption of classes at Dandridge Elementary School on Monday night after the cleaners give an estimated timetable for completing the work.

"We would also like to thank the Sheriff Jeff Coffey and all offices related to the Jefferson County Justice Center for opening their doors to keep our students warm and safe. Using this building as a unified center works well. Thank you everyone for helping us. The effort made by life," Johnson said.
