A Fallout 4 player discovers that fire extinguishers can be used to hurt and stun nearby enemies by accidentally shooting one when aiming at a Raider.

Bethesda Softworks released Fallout 4 back in 2015, and players continue to discover tricks to thwart their enemies all these years later. Recently, one Fallout 4 player has discovered an extinguisher technique that not only damages nearby NPCs but can knock them out and temporarily stun them in the process.

Reddit user Birdgreen25 recently posted a clip of their adventures in the Boston commonwealth of Fallout 4's post-apocalyptic world in which they're delving through a building that's occupied by Raiders. The Fallout 4 player quickly reacts to a Raider Scum that's encroaching on their space in a living area next to some shelves and a kitchen by shooting a fire extinguisher on the wall. Not knowing what would happen after shooting the red canister, Birdgreen25 is pleasantly surprised to see it work out in their favor rather than resulting in a wasted round.

Birdgreen25's clip begins with the player hiding partially obstructed behind a shelf as a Raider in Fallout 4 rounds the near corner and lingers in the darkness for a moment. Birdgreen25 then shoots at the Raider Scum but narrowly misses and hits a fire extinguisher hanging on the nearby wall which then blows up and hits the enemy like a projectile, causing them to fall to their knees before completely collapsing. The video ends before Birdgreen25 is able to fully capitalize on the stunned Raider, but it shows the effectiveness of simply using tools in the environment in a fight.

While some Fallout 4 fans have pointed out locations of other fire extinguishers like in the Superduper Mart and Coastal Cottage, many have noted that oxygen tanks and fuel barrels dotted around the open world can also be used to kill enemies. Like with other games, Fallout 4 players that struggle to get through certain areas may look for explosive canisters to improve their damage output potential by utilizing the same method. Although the Boston commonwealth Raider in Birdgreen25's clip is clearly in close enough proximity to be taken out by the fire extinguisher, it's currently unclear how wide of a radius the explosion covers.

Though this may not be the newest Fallout 4 trick to some players, others like Birdgreen25 are only discovering the helpful tool that is the fire extinguisher in recent playthroughs. Birdgreen25 has stated that they've played Fallout 4 plenty in the past, but they had never once shot a fire extinguisher, let alone one close enough to an enemy to hurt them. Fallout 4 isn't the only game to feature explosives for players to blow up as it's a helpful tool for killing big groups of enemies in other games including Borderlands 3, Halo Infinite, and Far Cry 6.

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
