The Oregon Department of Forestry is raising the fire danger level to extreme for Jackson and Josephine counties beginning at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.

The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is doing the same for Forest Service land it manages.

ODF said dry vegetation, hot weather, thunderstorms and numerous fires in the region prompted the move from high to extreme fire danger.

Under extreme fire danger conditions, new regulations go into effect that impact 1.8 million acres of state, private, county, city and federal Bureau of Land Management lands protected by ODF’s Southwest Oregon District:

ODF said the following fire prevention regulations are already in effect and will remain in place until the fire danger level drops significantly:

The Industrial Fire Precaution Level will remain at Level Two for both ODF-protected and Forest Service lands.
