There is always the possibility of fire on campus. If used properly, fire extinguishers can help minimize property damage and save lives. Portable fire extinguishers are located all over the campus and can be used for small-scale or initial fires, rather than large-scale fires. Before using the fire extinguisher, if a fire of any size occurs, be sure to call 911 and activate the fire alarm by pulling the fire station near the exit.
If all of the following situations occur, you can try to use a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire:
Harper College uses ABC combination fire extinguishers, which can be used to extinguish solid, flammable liquid or electrical fires, but cannot extinguish metal fires.
Eliminate any of these items and you can put out the fire
Weather permitting, the Department of Environmental Health and Safety organizes fire extinguisher training for Harper employees every year. The training was carried out in conjunction with the Paladin Fire Department.
