December 11th-Hansville-Hansville's leaders can finally see up close what has been brought after more than a year of negotiation and waiting: the city’s fire garage has added a new shiny Red.

After experiencing a series of financing-related delays, the Hanceville Fire Department received a customized 1,000-gallon pump truck this month. The city provided funds for this vehicle for $500,928 over a 10-year period, prepaid $30,000, and the remaining income was $479,928.

After the Christmas parade in Hansville last week, local leaders gathered outside the city’s No. 1 Fire Station to officially name the new car, giving them the opportunity to personally check the public funds they purchased.

Rodger Green, chief of the Hanceville fire department, said that the new engine meets the huge demand for the department's response work. As the number of emergency calls in the past few years has gradually risen to a record high, the department is facing more and more challenges.

"We need it," said Green, who approached the city council in September last year, hoping to obtain two vehicles to meet the growing demand for the department's services. The new truck is painted with classic fire truck red and a contrasting black and gold color scheme.
