A Texas man set fire to his pickup truck next to a set of gas pumps at a Buc-ee’s in Freeport this week. Drone footage shows what the scene looked like Monday night.

A Texas man is currently being treated for burns after reportedly setting fire to his pickup truck near the gas pumps at a Buc-ee's store in Freeport. According to the Facts, the local news outlet for Brazoria county, the 38-year-old man set fire to his 2008 Toyota Tacoma with two gallons of gasoline on Monday night, September 26, just after midnight.

A witness on the scene alleges that he attempted to help the man extinguish the fire, but was met with resistance and force.

“I ain’t going to lie to you,” said Michael Jackson Jr., to the Express-News. “I tried to help put it out and the dude swung at me and wouldn’t let me put it out. He kind of nicked me.”

This account was echoed by Freeport police. Lt. Corey Brinkman told Freeport media that a bystander and police officer attempted to confront the man, who was zapped twice with tasers before being taken into custody, according to the Facts.

The licks of fire engulfing the white pickup were captured via drone video by another Freeport resident on the scene.  In the footage, clouds of black smoke are seen  rising to the gas pump overhead, nearly obscuring the glowing yellow Buc-ee's beaver logo. The incident of the man lighting the truck on fire was not caught on camera.

Jesse Gonzalez lives a block away from the Buc-ee's and noticed the fire when he was driving home from work. He went home to get his drone to capture the spectacle, and posted the illuminating two and a half minute video to his Facebook page.

At the time, Gonzalez was in the dark about the cause of the fire, not learning the extent of the incident until the following morning.

“I thought it was an accident,” Gonzalez shared with the Express-News. “I heard explosion-like sounds.”
